That Time I Got Nominated For A Blogging Award
What’s this Liebster award thing?
I’d say I’m speechless, but that will be nothing short of a colossal lie, because I can talk your ear off right now. But yes – just a few weeks after I started this blog I got nominated for the Liebster award! I want to send a carrier pigeon with a huge “THANK YOU” note incrusted with white gold and silver to the TWO PEOPLE who nominated me, but instead I’ll just mention them right here: Leah Godfrey & Saswati.
…seriously, what’s the Liebster award?
Okay, so the Liebster Award is an award given to new bloggers by bloggers who’ve been on the scene for a while and have an established online presence. I’ve been a freelance blogger for a while now, but I’ve only had my own blog for a few weeks and I’m crazy excited to see that other bloggers have found and nominated it – it really means a lot. Not like “Let me put a ring on it” a lot, but still, a lot.
To accept the nomination I need to answer 11 questions – I’ve made a list combined from those Leah & Saswati had for me, so prepare to be either very bored or weirdly interested:
- What inspired you to start blogging?
I was walking down the street on a rainy Copenhagen day when suddenly a piano fell on my head. After I found out I was still alive, even though a piano fell on my head, I realized I have superpowers and decided to blog about it. My fame has reached cosmic heights ever since and I’m releasing my first book next year. Yes, that would have been a fun story, but unfortunately my reason is much more mundane. I’ve been writing ever since I could pick up a pen or sit in front of a typewriter. I’ve always had a lot to say and I’ve always preferred writing to talking. Unlike others, I can admit that I like being the center of attention, especially if it’s because of something I wrote. Now that you know all of this, you can understand why having my own blog came naturally to me.
- How did you come up with your blog name?
I’ll admit, coming up with ddobreva.com was quite arduous and required a lot of sleepless nights, but somehow it came to me. Maybe it was that piano.
- What do you love about blogging?
Knowing there’s always someone out there who wants to hear what I have to say. It’s one of the best feelings in the world, right there on the list after eating sushi or putting on a new pair of heels. If I can provide value to at least one person with my posts, then I’ve accomplished my goal.
- What is your biggest challenge when it comes to blogging?
I do it so much for other people, that I don’t have enough time to blog for myself (a.k.a the fate of the freelancer). If I could stay cooked up at home all day with a
cup of tea glass of wine and nothing but free time, I wouldn’t stop writing. For my OWN blog!
- What inspires and motivates you to keep on blogging?
- What advice would you give to others wanting to start a blog?
Only start if you truly love writing – that should be your #1 reason. Everything else can follow
- What do you want to accomplish with your blog?
My favorite thing to do when blogging is to pick a serious topic and combine it with something completely ridiculous to give people a fresh perspective. Kind of like this one or this one. I want people to have fun when reading my posts, no matter the topic – and, hopefully, get value out of them as well. Also – inspiration. I want to inspire people to finally take that trip abroad, to start blogging, to become more productive, to be more open-minded… to live better. If all else fails – to at least become more sarcastic.
- Do you like or dislike meeting new people? Why?
I’m obsessed with meeting new people, so I’m always at some event or another, making awkward conversations and probably annoying most of them. I like it because it gives me a chance to hear new ideas and perspectives, not to mention a lot of weird stories – I recently had a 4 AM conversation with someone about the new world order and his childhood pet turtle.
- Who is your favorite author and why?
Although I don’t agree with many of his views, H. L. Mencken is one (if not the) of my definite idols when it comes to writing. To me, he’s a literary genius – I am in awe of his satire and the way he uses exaggeration and all those nifty mocking euphemisms in his writing. I’ve also been having a lifelong romance with Samuel Clemens ever since I was 8 (doesn’t sound creepy at all).
- Tell us something interesting about yourself
People often ask me why I don’t have a driver license and then laugh it off when I reply with “I don’t want to be responsible for a murder-suicide”. I’m dead serious (pun intended) – spend a day with me outside and you’ll see the most disoriented person you’ve ever met. After that, imagining me holding a driver license will be like imagining Donald Trump meeting his daughter’s Mexican boyfriend – deadly.
- What can we expect from your blog in the coming months?
So many things are in the making! I’m going to do a lot of guest blogging, start planning new surprises for my most loyal subscribers, and *drum roll* I’m also going to work on a piece for one of the most famous online news platforms. Unless another piano hits me in the head.
I want to follow the set of rules that allow me to nominate 5 more people for the Liebster award – sharing is car… nah, I can’t even say it. Clichés suck!
The Color Yellow – It’s rare to find a blog with tips that are actually useful
